Laid Out 1996

Dove Lane is a dead-end street of about 660 feet running east from Moran Road to a cul-de-sac, in the northwest part of town. It is the street of Quail Run Estates, laid out on "Definitive Subdivision in Billerica, Mass., Quail Run Estates, Dove Lane, Lot Layout Plan," drawn by Raymond Engineering Service of 574 Boston Road and dated May 30, 1995, revised on October 2, 1995 for planning board conditions and Board of Health comments. The owner and applicant was R & S Realty of 10 Tirone Path. The planning board signed the plan in January 1996 and it was recorded on January 16, 1996 (Plan Book 190, Plan 60). It divided assessors' parcel 14 of Map 75, in the Village Residence district, into seven house lots of 30,000 to 41,000 square feet around the curving street and its turnaround.

The first houses were built in 1996; the house at 2 Dove Lane, on lot 7, was sold new in September 1996 by Robert E. Murphy, trustee, after the lot had passed through William A. Cooke, who with Murphy was then also developing Shawsheen Woods. Like the subdivision's own name, the street's is a bird's; no record of the choice was found. Dove Lane is not related to Dove Path in Fox Hill Cemetery.

The annual spring town meeting of 2005 accepted Dove Lane as a public way. Article 26, submitted by the planning board, was voted at the fifth session on May 17, 2005, "to accept the entire length of Dove Lane as a public way in accordance with the layouts adopted by the Board of Selectmen and on file with the Town Clerk," the words "the entire length of" having been inserted to correct a "scribner's error" in the warrant; the same session accepted Greenough Road under Article 25.
